Roxana (Bactrian: Roshanak, meaning "little star" or even "dawn", Persian: روشنك), the Bactrian wife of Alexander the Great, was born earliest than a month 341 BC, although the accurate date remains uncertain. She was the girl of a lord known as Oxyartes of Balkh in Bactria (then eastern Persia, now northern Afghanistan). She married Alexander inside 327 BC after he captured her when a fort of Sogdian Rock surrendered to him. Balkh was a previous of the Persian Empire's provinces to fall to Alexander. It were protected by Alexander's mother, Olympias, in Macedon, but her assassination inside 316 BC allowed Cassander to seek kingship. Since Alexander IV Aegus was a legitimate heir to the Alexandrian empire, Cassander murdered him along sustaining Roxana c. 309 BC.
